Transformation

There is no mistaking the fact that our world is changing. When I say, “our world,” I am simply meaning our experience of day-to-day life. Many people are increasingly frustrated by the differences we see in our communities, states, and country. It is no wonder that some are frustrated. Our world is in the throes of transformation with regard to both civil and public health concerns. The same-ol’ same-ol’ is not what it used to be.

The reality is, transformation can often be quite challenging to say the least. We find ourselves comfortable with the status quo, and anything that might upset the apple cart discourages and frustrates. No doubt the events of 2020 will be written in future history books and taught as a pivotal transformation in American life.

What about spiritual transformation? Transformation of the spirit is also a difficult journey. Some would come to know the truth of salvation in Christ only to push it away for fear of change. Some see the path God has laid for His people as a hindrance to their normal activities, the status quo of their lives. Because of this, they are unwilling to yield to the will of God. Others see the challenges which accompany spiritual transformation and freely submit to God with the knowledge that His strength will sustain them. Indeed, God does promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), that when we are weak, in Christ we are strong (1 Corinthians 12:9-10).

But we cannot escape the fact that transformation is often difficult. As we come to know what God expects of His people, we come to know that changes must occur for us to live the kind of life to which God calls us. The Apostle Paul urged, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). These changes, this transformation, the renewal of our mind, often involve major alterations to our day-to-day lives. Again, this can be quite a challenge. But it is important for us to remember that God will always be with us. God will help us. God will strengthen us. Although we are aware of the fact that spiritual transformation is challenging, we must put our trust in the Power which is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).
