God's Truth

June 1, 2016

We live in a world where the religious climate is challenging to say the least.  The cultural shift that has taken place over the last few decades has left us in a precarious situation.  Religious pluralism seems to be the accepted modus operandi.

Essentially, we come to understand culture’s explanation of our world being very much like the “Six Men of Indostan” groping about an elephant which none of them has seen.  You see, these six men are blind...and each makes his best attempt to describe what the elephant is like, though each is only able to feel but a small part of the whole.

Many today would suggest that if only we could see the full picture…if only we could see clearly…with the whole elephant in view, we would have a better understanding.  This is where the problem lies for Christians.  We live in a world that says there is no way we can see the whole, that each person has his own perspective, yet it’s not the whole picture.  So we find ourselves in a world where we seek to share our faith in Christ only to be met with accusations of our obvious arrogance and intolerance.  Who are we to think we have found The Truth?  At least that what the world asks…  The suggestion is, we only have one part of the whole…we are holding the trunk or the tail…so we cannot begin to claim that we have the whole truth.

   C. S. Lewis said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe in the sun – not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”  Jesus said that God’s Word is truth (John 17:17).  If we abide in his word, we are truly his disciples, and we will know the truth and the truth will set us free (John 8:31-32).  Is your faith in Christ the lens through which you see everything else?  Let’s open our eyes to God’s truth.
